The Brookfield Health Department approves the location and construction of all new private wells. Individuals interested in public water issues are referred to the Drinking Water Section of the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) Website. The goal of the local health department is to assure, in advance of drilling, that all known sources of pollution are separated from a proposed well by code-specified distances. In addition, the Well Completion Report is reviewed for proper construction, depth, yield and storage. A water analysis is required, and because of the unusually high radionucleide levels in many Brookfield wells, testing for uranium is recommended on all new wells, prior to final approval for human consumption.

Wells may only be installed by licensed contractors. A list of these is available on the DPH website. Application for installation may be made only by a licensed driller and must be accompanied by their state Department of Consumer Protection form.
