Communicable Diseases

The Brookfield Department of Health is the lead local investigator of all foodborne illnesses, communicable disease outbreaks or biologic threats, in cooperation with the Chief Epidemiologist for the State Department of Public Health. All suspected cases should be reported to the department and will be investigated promptly. The department receives copies of all cases of Reportable Diseases, as established by the Commissioner, and acts upon them accordingly, as appropriate. The Department maintains a strictly confidential file and data-base for all reportable diseases within the community.

In addition, the Department is responsible for mass immunizations such as occurred with the Novel H1N1 Flu and is available for consultation regarding seasonal flu issues.
