Emergency Services Unit: Canine

Our canines perform the following Law Enforcement Tasks:

  • Search all types of buildings for criminals in hiding
  • Search for evidence or property connected with a crime
  • Search for illegal drugs that have been hidden
  • Chase and apprehend criminals escaping arrest who may be armed and dangerous
  • Act as a deterrent and back up in dangerous situations such as fights and disturbances
  • Track and find wanted criminals or missing persons in urban, rural or rugged, wooded areas

 

 

Jeff

Sergeant Jeff Osuch is one of two K-9 handlers assigned to the unit and his partner's name is Argo.

Argo is an American-born Belgian Malinois with European blood lines. Sergeant Jeff Osuch and Argo have completed a twelve-week K-9 police academy. They hold certifications through the National Police Work Dog Association, and the Connecticut Work Dog Association. The Police Department is extremely grateful for the generous contributions that have made this program possible.

 

 

 

KYEK

Sergeant Joseph Kyek is one of two K-9 handlers assigned to the unit, and his partner's name is Tango.         

Our canine unit hand-selected Tango and began his in-house training in 2023. K-9 Tango is a dual-purpose (patrol/narcotics) belgian malinois certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association, Connecticut Police Work Dog Association, and National Police Canine Association.
