Board of Finance
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Brookfield Board of Finance is an elected body consisting of 6 members. The First Selectman is an ex-officio member and can vote only to break ties. The primary responsibility of the Board of Finance is the preparation of the annual budget in accordance with a process that is set out in the Town Charter. The Board of Finance budget recommendation is presented to the residents at the Annual Town Meeting. Upon approval of the budget at a referendum, the Board of Finance sets the mill rate.
The Board of Finance is responsible for providing an annual independent audit of the books and accounts of the Town. The Board of Finance also considers requests for special appropriations, additional capital projects, and budget transfers during the year. The Board of Finance provides oversight and guidance in all financial affairs of the Town.
