17. Ponds

The Inland Wetlands Commission considers a pond a watercourse. Any work within 100 feet of a watercourse requires a wetlands permit. The creation of a pond does not require a permit, provided that the work is not performed within 75 feet of a wetland area or within 100 feet of a watercourse, or within 200 feet of the mean waterline of Candlewood Lake, the Still River, and Lake Lillinonah. Any questions regarding wetlands permits and wetlands mapping should be directed to the Wetlands Enforcement Officer and/or the Land Use Secretary in the Land Use Office.
