Covid update: 12/28/2021

Yesterday Governor Lamont announced plans to distribute three million COVID-19 at-home rapid tests and six million N95 masks in Connecticut in an effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19 during this heavy travel and holiday season. The following are key points regarding the holiday week municipal distribution initiative:

The purpose of this distribution is to provide tests kits to be used this week to reduce the spread of the Omicron virus and to supplement existing testing.

Brookfield’s primary focus will be on our first responder corps. The next in line will be Town volunteers and employees critical to continuity of Operations as a part of our Emergency Preparedness plan and on members of the public who have interacted or intend to interact with numbers of people whose COVID status is unknown.

Because the amount is very limited, we will only be distributing two test kits (two boxes) per household so that it is fair to all concerned. Brookfield is only receiving 25 cases with 90 test kits per case with 2 tests per kit = 2,250 kits.

Schools will be getting tests early in January, perhaps as early as next week (along with state provided N95 masks), so that is not the focus for this effort. Brookfield will be retrieving our disbursement from the regional Points of Dispensing (PODs) on Thursday morning December 30th.

Our goal is for Brookfield to begin distribution to the public beginning at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon at Brookfield high school. Kits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis and proof of Brookfield residence is required.

Guidance to Brookfield on what to do if an individual should test positive will come in the form of a flyer along with the test kit at the distribution. Any changes to the above will be posted on the Town’s website by Wednesday evening. Please check for any updates or changes.
