Board of Assessment Appeals The Board of Assessment Appeals for the 2022 Motor Vehicle values will be September 9th, 2023 8:30am - 11:00am. The applications are available. Contact the board members at assessor@brookfieldct.gov or 203-775-7302 for any questions.

Board of Ethics Duties & Responsibilities: The responsibility of the Board of Ethics is to establish guidelines of ethical behavior for Town officials and employees and to review specific cases of allegations of ethics violations.

The Brookfield Board of Finance is an elected body consisting of 6 members. The First Selectman is an ex-officio member and can vote only to break ties. The primary responsibility of the Board of Finance is the preparation of the annual budget in accordance with a process that is set out in the Town Charter. The Board of Finance budget recommendation is presented to the residents at the Annual Town Meeting. Upon approval of the budget at a referendum, the Board of Finance sets the mill rate. The Board of Finance is responsible for providing an annual independent audit of the books and accounts of the Town. The Board of Finance also considers requests for special appropriations, additional capital projects, and budget transfers during the year.  The Board of Finance provides oversight and guidance in all financial affairs of the Town.

Composition. The Board of Selectmen shall consist of the First Selectman and two (2) other Selectmen, who shall be elected as this Charter provides.

General powers and duties. Except as otherwise specifically provided for in this Charter, the Board of Selectmen shall have the powers and duties conferred by the Constitution and CT General Statutes of the State of Connecticut upon the Board of Selectmen. The legislative authority shall be vested in the Board of Selectmen except as otherwise specifically provided in this Charter and shall include but not be limited by the various provisions set forth in this Charter.

The Commission on Aging seeks to enhance the lives of present and future generations of our town's older citizens (individuals fifty-five years or older). The commission proposes and evaluates programs and services for older citizens in Brookfield. It informs and assists the town in the development, initiation, coordination and implementation of programs and services for older citizens.

It informs and assists the town in the development, initiation, coordination and implementation of programs and services for older citizens.

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) exists to provide help to individuals and businesses and to aggressively advance the coordinated commercial development in the Town of Brookfield.  Supporting economic development makes it easier for businesses and developers to locate and succeed in Brookfield.  Successful businesses bring employment and contribute to the tax base.  The EDC will work directly with all of Brookfield’s land use departments other commissions to support your business development goals.

Inland-Wetlands Commission Duties & Responsibilities: The Inland-Wetland Commission has control over development affecting designated wetland areas, streams and watercourses. The Brookfield Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) was established to carry out the Connecticut State Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act of 1972. The process of permitting activities near wetlands, watercourses, and bodies of water is to assure proper use, protection and maintenance of the Town’s freshwater wetlands and surface water resources. The Commission consists of volunteers. Eight members, of which five are regular members and three are alternates, serve four-year terms. The Board of Selectman appoints commission members.   A full-time staff member and an administrative assistant serve the Commission. The staff is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the regulations and is available to the public on a daily basis.

The Lake Lillinonah Authority works in cooperation with representatives from area towns abutting Lake Lillinonah to ensure proper use of the facility.

Police Commission Duties & Responsibilities: The Police Commission governs the inernal affairs of the Police Department and recommends financial needs for adequate implementation of police protection.

Duties & Responsibilities: The Zoning Board of Appeals has the authority to vary the application of the zoning regulations in harmony with their general purpose and intent. The Zoning Board of Appeals base their decisions on consideratinos for conserving the public health, safety, convenience, welfare, and property values. A hardship of the land based on the particular conditions of the parcel of land in question must be demonstrated. The Zoning Board of Appeals also considers appeals to decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer.

The Zoning Commission is responsible for the implementation of plan of development through zoning regulations; design review of industrial and commercial applications. The commission reviews and makes decisions on multi-family projects
