Inland-Wetlands Commission
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Inland-Wetland Commission has control over development affecting designated wetland areas, streams and watercourses.
The Brookfield Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC) was established to carry out the Connecticut State Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act of 1972. The process of permitting activities near wetlands, watercourses, and bodies of water is to assure proper use, protection and maintenance of the Town’s freshwater wetlands and surface water resources.
The Commission consists of volunteers. Eight members, of which five are regular members and three are alternates, serve four-year terms. The Board of Selectman appoints commission members.
A full-time staff member and an administrative assistant serve the Commission. The staff is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the regulations and is available to the public on a daily basis.
