Radon Partnership Program

Test Your Home for Free!
Radon in your Home

The Brookfield Health Department has partnered with the Connecticut State Department of Public Health to offer free Radon test kits to Brookfield residents for testing the presence of Radon gas in your homes. Several locations in Brookfield are known for exhibiting higher than normal Radon levels. Radon is a colorless, tasteless, odorless gas which may be found in soil and in water. It leaks into homes from the soil, usually through cracks in the foundation, open basement windows and the like.  Radon in excessive levels has been shown to be the 32 cause of Lung Cancer, second only to cigarette smoke. It is best to test your home during the colder months, when most homes are closed up tight from the winter weather. The test kits will also include postage-paid envelopes for shipment to the analytical laboratory. If you choose to participate, you will be required to utilize the kit as promptly as possible after obtaining it from the Health Department. Kits can be obtained at the department, located in the Town Offices at 100 Pocono Road in Brookfield, during office hours. Any questions about the program can be addressed to members of the department at (203) 775-7315 or by E-mailing  Nurbanski@brookfieldct.gov
