Uncovering the past at Merwin Brook Cemetery

The community garden, sponsored by the Brookfield Lions Club
on the Gurski Farm property, has been a success in its first year
of existence. Thirty-five individual plots were allotted earlier this
year to local gardeners, who are reaping the rewards of planting
tomatoes, squash, corn, cucumbers, and other vegetables, as well
as flowers. Fencing has protected the garden plots from deer and
other animals. Below, On a recent sunny morning, Angela

End of a successful season. Recently more than 80 gardeners and members of the Brookfield Lions Club gathered at the Lions Brookfield Community Garden at the Gurski Farm on Route 133 to finish the harvest and prepare for next season.
This first season was very successful with 38 plots being worked by Brookfield residents. Since more requests were made for plots than were available, the Community Gardens will be expanded to 52 plots.
The Lions are accepting renewal and new applications for the 2010 season. Garden plots will be awarded on a first come-first serve basis depending on the date and time appropriate applications are received.
Further information and applications can be found on www.brookfieldctlions.org or by calling Dave Keefe at 203-775-3876.
