Duties and Responsibilities

The Brookfield Aquifer Protection Agency is charged with protection of the Meadowbrook Aquifer Protection Area as designated by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Aquifer Protection Area Program.  The Meadowbrook Aquifer Protection Area draws groundwater from wells located in stratified drift, a geologic formation comprised of layers of sand and gravel.  These wells are operated by Aquarion Water Company and they serve more than 1,000 residential customers.  The purpose of the agency is to protect the quality of this water and prevent contamination from land uses that may utilize hazardous materials.  The location of the Meadowbrook Aquifer Protection Area can be found on the Brookfield Zoning District map and its regulations are in effect beginning December 18, 2014.
