The Town Assessor’s Office is responsible for the discovery, listing and equitable valuation of all real and personal property within the Town of Brookfield in accordance with Connecticut State Statutes at 70% of market value for the annual production of the Grand List
The assessor and her staff administer state and local programs of tax relief, apply exemptions as permitted by state law, and assist the public with a variety of inquiries.
A Grand List of all taxable property within the Town of Brookfield is produced annually.
Automobiles are assessed at 70% of the market value as of October 1st of each year. Values are determined by using the New England edition of the N.A.D.A. pricing guides. If a car is unregistered, the owner must come in to the office and declare it as personal property.
The department maintains an up to date inventory of all property, including changes in ownership, new construction, alterations, and sub-divisions filed as of the assessment date, and inspects and values all permit activity within the town of Brookfield.
A revaluation of all Real Estate is conducted every 5 years as defined by State Statutes.

Adjusts Motor Vehicle assessments that have either been sold, stolen salvaged or registered out of state.
Annually applies all tax exemption programs as permitted by state law. (Veterans, Disabled, Blind, Elderly tax relief Fireman’s abatement, etc.)
